James C. Scott hat die zeitgenössische Anthropologie durch seine Arbeiten zu den
nicht-sichtbaren Seiten von politischer Herrschaft, Unterwerfung und Widerstand massgeblich geprägt. Begriffe wie "moral economy" oder "resistance" haben eine neue Bedeutung erlangt, indem er Verbindungen zwischen sozialer Organisation, ökonomischer Abhängigkeit, Repräsentationen von Macht und Herrschaft, und, nicht zuletzt, die mannigfaltigen subversiven Praktiken und Artikulationen von denjenigen aufzeigt, die dieser Macht und Herrschaft unterworfen sind.
Im Kurs werden einzelne Kapitel aus allen Hauptwerken Scotts im Original gelesen, sowie zusätzliche Literatur, welche sich mit Scotts Thesen auseinandersetzt. Darüber hinaus sollen Bezüge zu aktueller Politik und Forschung ausgeleuchtet werden. Das Ziel ist eine fundierte Übersicht über die Hauptwerke und ein kritisches Verständnis der Thesen James C. Scotts zu gewinnen.

| Am 21. September findet von 16h-17h die Informationsveranstaltung zur Ethnologie statt. Der Lektürekurs wird anschliessend von 17h-18h stattfinden.
Teilnahmebedingungen:
Gute Englischkenntnisse.
Die Anmeldung über ISIS ist zwingend. http://www.isis.unibas.ch
Der Kurs ist für alle offen. Anzahl Plätze auf 30 TeilnehmerInnen beschränkt. Bei einer höheren Anmeldezahl, haben Studierende des Faches Ethnologie Vortritt, die den Grundkurs 'Geschichte und Theorien der Ethnologie' besuchen und/oder noch keinen Lektürekurs besucht haben; falls noch freie Plätze vorhanden, so werden diese nach Anmeldedatum vergeben. |
