Inhalt
This seminar seeks to explore practices of governance in Namibia since independence. After a cursory overview of theories of statehood in Africa, the Namibian example will be closely analysed. The emphasis will be laid on concrete instances of bad or good governance and on different models of explanation. As good literature on recent developments is still scarce, our main source will be print media, background reports and government papers. The seminar will thus be a course in the anthropological interpretation of such "undigested" sources, too.

articipants will have to actively explore a chosen topic in workgroups, so initiative and commitment are a prerequisite for participation.
